This is a grant funded by the SAC. Therefore, all artists and locations must be in Saugerties, NY.
Murals and Sculpture
Criteria for Artwork Submissions:
Must be a mural or sculpture
Permanent fixture
Sustainable outdoors through all seasons
To inspire citizens and promote a sense of community identity, to record and celebrate important events in the history of a community and represent our town culture.
Open only to Saugerties artists and Saugerties locations.
Fulfill a vision of the Comprehensive Plan for Saugerties: “Although the Village Historic District attracts visitors, more cooperation is needed between the Town and Village to enhance the attractiveness of the Gateway Roads leading into the Village and to ensure commercial development on the Gateway Roads blends in, enhances, and attracts visitors to the Historic Village.”
Be in a location visible and accessible to the public for free by walking or driving
Functions of Public Art:
To inspire citizens and promote a sense of community identity, to record and celebrate important events in the history of a community and to generate public discourse.
Public art adds enormous value to the cultural, aesthetic and economic vitality of a community, fosters community pride and a sense of belonging, enhances the quality of life for its residents and visitors.
Murals create a tangible sense of place, destination, resulting in increased foot traffic while adding color, vibrancy and character to environments.
Sculptures can add a visual representation of our town’s character and make a positive impact through color, texture, and scale.
*Applicant is responsible for securing a location for their art. SAC cannot offer help in finding or securing a location. Only once the location has been determined can we verify that the owner has preapproved the artwork.
