Head over to Jane St. Art Center for the showing of RA Jenkin’s “American Hieroglyphs.” The artist uses small everyday iconic objects and symbols to create large works that reflect American history and culture. The meaning of each small piece, in part, lies in its simplicity. Each amalgamated and completed work has a larger and more complex meaning. Materials used include paper, silk, antique silk thread, pen and ink, bubble wrap, vinyl, and a variety of fabrics. The show will be available to view until October 26th.

The Sketchbook Gallery ✹ 9 Jane St. ✹ 4-6pm
Head over to The Sketchbook Gallery for the opening reception of the group exhibition “Jane St. Drawing Club.” Artists have been gaining inspiration from a live model for centuries. It is a time honored tradition where we learn by seeing and expressing what we see and feel. An artist's vision and expression gets funneled through their life experience, culture, training, moment, time and place; content and context. As we focus on seeing, we create. We note the human form plus colors, lights and darks, line, gesture, composition etc. Each artist has a unique mark making language and interpretation of the model. You can have one model and 15 artist drawings and each artist will have entirely different interpretations of the same person and same pose. We all see differently. It’s a magical experience to be in a studio all together in this creative process. This show is a sample of what we do. We encourage you to think of these pieces as experiments, a process of discovery by each artist rather than a product. Artists include Lauren Bergman, Lucille Colin, Janet Dow, Kristin Flynn, Jennifer Hicks, Amy Husten, David Klein, Bob Leddy, Debra Priestly, Alexander Rupert, Steven Rushefsky, Wendy Saxon, Chris Seubert, and Joanne Pagano Weber.
